MAD announces creative mentoring program

MAD Australia Productions is calling for applicants for MAD Mentoring 2011. The company is a creative video production & advertising company that supports South Australian artists.

It has helped launch the careers of South Australian film industry professionals for the past three years.

MAD attracts filmmakers who are looking to kick-start their career, or build a strong portfolio of work in a fun, relaxed working environment conducive to making movies for the corporate market as well as high art.

The MAD Mentorship Program is designed for filmmakers who present with exceptional talent, a ‘can do’ attitude, and a willingness to learn.

MAD Mentorship is a venture that began in 2007 to grant unique opportunities for promising artists. Each year MAD selects between one and three applicants to be part of the program which is valued at $137,000.00 per applicant (scholarships are available).

Every participant who has completed the 12-month program has gone on to gain full-time employment in the multi-media industry.

MAD Mentorship is a rare and carefully devised program designed around each individual participant. It is exclusive and the expectations are high. Participants should prepare to be tested and challenged to be the best they can be.

MAD Mentorship gives people the opportunity to take on the role of their choice and trains them in their field with a very hands-on approach that no tertiary institution can match.

The aim of the mentorship program is to provide selected participants with the skills and support structures required to kick-start their career in the industry. The objective is to provide ongoing mentoring, on-the-job training, assistance for their personal media projects, feedback on performance, recognition for their work and introductions to key players in the industry.

MAD’s aim is not directly to skill participants for a job, but rather equip them with the necessary insight and networks to be able to forge a career for themselves in the industry, whether that be via an entrepreneurial enterprise that they set up themselves, or any other means.

“We are very mindful of the fact that in Australia a large percentage of filmmakers are either self-employed or contractors rather than employees,” said Mr Dale Ross, supervisor of the MAD Mentorship.

“We aim to cater to this in a way that tertiary institutions are not equipped to do so. It is one of the aspects of the MAD Mentorship that make it so appealing.”

No formal level of education is required, however all successful applicants in the past have completed tertiary education in Screen Studies or a Creative Media related course at a University or TAFE college. The creative media industry is highly competitive but all applicants including those without formal education are encouraged to apply because it is possible for them to meet the selection criteria without having studied at a tertiary level.

To apply for consideration – please contact Craig Douglas or Dale Ross, pioneers and producers at MAD Australia Productions on (+618) 8244 7880.
